Beware Religious Overlords

BEWARE OF RELIGIOUS OVERLORDS
By James Trimm

Kefa writes:

Feed the flock of Eloah that has been committed to you
and care for it spiritually, not by necessity, but willingly,
not for filthy gain, but from your whole heart.
Not as masters of the flock,
but as a good example for them.
(1Kefa 5:2-3)

The Aramaic word for “necessity” here is “k’tira” “necessity, constraint, force, or violence”. Kefa is saying that overseers/pastors should not lead by constraining the assembly but by the willingness of the assembly.
Not as a “master” over the assembly, but by simply serving as a good example to the assembly. The Greek renders with katakurieuontes “lording over” “exercising lordship over”.

Paul, writing of himself as an Emissary writes:

Not because we are masters of your trust,
but we are helpers of your joy;
for you stand by trust.
(2Cor. 1:24)

Beware of Religious Overlords who would “lord over the flock” leading not by example and willingness, but by constraint and force.

Overseer’s do have a function in guiding the flock and protecting the sheep from wolves.
However is NOT Yahweh’s will that Overseers abuse their power to lord over the flock.
We are Overseers, not Overlords.
