Chavurah: The Fellowship of the Kidushim
Chaverim (Friends),
We read in the Hebrew text of the Nazarene Creed of the Emissaries:
We read in the Hebrew text of the Nazarene Creed of the Emissaries:
אני מאמין ברוח הקדש
I believe in the Ruach HaKodesh,
בקהל הקדש כללי בחבור הקדושים
in the set-apart general Assembly,
in the fellowship of the Kidushim (set-apart ones)
The Hebrew word for "fellowship" here is CHAVUR (Strong's 2249) from the root
CHAVAR (Strong's 2266) meaning "to bind or join together". This is also the root for the word CHAVER (Strong's 2270) "fellow, friend."
CHAVAR (Strong's 2266) meaning "to bind or join together". This is also the root for the word CHAVER (Strong's 2270) "fellow, friend."
The Talmud
(Tractate Pesachim) uses the term chavurah (fellowship) to identify the
group of people registered for a single Passover sacrifice, and who held
a Seder together, in the days of the Temple in Jerusalem. Yeshua and
his twelve talmidim were a chavurah.
This is the
perfect word because a "Chavurah" in Judaism, is also a small group of
like-minded Jews who assemble, often in homes, for the purposes of
facilitating Torah study, Shabbat and holiday prayer services and
sharing communal experiences such as lifecycle events.
We don't all live close to other Nazarenes, but NazareneSpace is an online Chavurah for all of us!
How Can You start a Nazarene Chavurah?
* Open your home to a few friends for an evening Scripture study.
* Print and distribute
copies of the “Free Bible Quiz” with your address and meeting time
written on each copy. Distribute them as widely as you can, put them on
doors and under windshield wipers.
* Take 10 to 15 minutes
before opening for some get-to-know each other time. (This is only
needed in new groups or when there are visitors). Go around the room
asking an ice breaking question. Below are a list to work from:
- When did “God” become more than a word to you?
- What was your religious upbringing?
- What is your favorite book of the Bible? (Why?)
* Using the free articles at http://www.nazarenejudaism.com teach the truth of Torah and Messiah to the group.
* Close with prayer
* Fellowship and refreshments.
ATTITUDE: Always welcome
everyone. Do not be negative. Maintain Torah as truth and freedom and as
a thing to rejoice in. Also, If you do start a group in your home let
